Supporting Life Sciences at Michigan
The University of Michigan has invested heavily in new facilities and
recruiting efforts to be a leader of the scientific revolution in the
life sciences. U-M’s role as an important center of research and
teaching and its long history of biomedical innovation compel it to do
so. The Life Sciences will change our health, replace many of the chemicals
and materials we use, and improve our relationship to the environment.
Only by building top-notch research and teaching facilities, staffed with
awe-inspiring colleagues, will Michigan be able to stake a significant
claim in this important new endeavor. Gifts and partnerships are the key
to Michigan’s continued success in the life sciences.
Facilities
The vision and commitment of generous donors will help Michigan build
and equip life sciences facilities that are competitive with the world’s
best. Landmark facilities help U-M attract the best scientific minds to
Ann Arbor, and become a lasting legacy.
Faculty
Michigan faces intense competition from several of America’s top
institutions to recruit the very best faculty for life sciences research.
Endowed professorships to support faculty are an excellent way to attract
and retain outstanding people.
Student Support
Faculty are attracted to Michigan not only for the stellar colleagues,
but also by the brightest, most capable students. Financial support helps
students from all walks of life reach their greatest potential.
Life Sciences and Society Program
The University of Michigan’s vast knowledge and expertise in public
policy, law, business, social research and other non-laboratory fields
is informing the discussion of what the life sciences future will mean
to individuals and to society. The Life Sciences and Society Program is
facilitating that discussion and opening new lines of communication across
the campus.
Corporate Partnerships
Corporations invest substantially in the University through philanthropic
support, sponsored research and a wide range of industrial affiliate programs.
By supporting Michigan, corporations strengthen their relationship with
one of the world’s leading research universities, gain exposure
to an important source of intellectual talent, sustain departments and
faculty engaged in research related to their interests, honor individuals
who have played key roles in their success, introduce their companies
and their products to future users and consumers, and support and encourage
the philanthropy of their employees.
